book I: chapter 4

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:1-5)

Contraries
The creature and Creator are
As contrary as night and day.
The path to the Immortal’s far;
Yet privation provides the way.

The fullness of her creaturehood
Is nothingness before His throne;
And all her mind has understood
Is but a straw the wind has blown.

To know the pure and simple light
Of God’s wisdom, She must unlearn
Her ways, and leave perception’s sight —
The simplified soul can discern.

She embraces simplicity
Of soul to gain her liberty.

May the Creator grant us the grace to be liberated from the complicated ways of our hearts and minds so that we may be prepared to receive His wisdom in holy simplicity.
